The Model 29-3 came out in 1982 and this was a sad day for Smith and Wesson. The Model 29 continued and the Model 29-7 ushered in the era of MiM parts. Under no circumstances should you ever buy a Model 29-7. These are schmoed-out pieces of junk and are best used as paperweights.The serial number is on the bottom of the grip. You might want to check and make sure the ejector rod is screwed in all the way, it can back out a turn or two and sometimes cause the gun to lock up. Serial numbers beginning with an S were produced from 1945 until 1948. In 1945 they started with S811338 and went to 999999 in 1948. Based on your serial number yours was probably late 1947 to early 1948. In 1957 the 38 M&P became the model 10. There definitely should be a serial number on the butt.Product Features.
